Budgeting & Forecasting Essentials 1

In this 1.5‑day course the main aspects of the budgeting and forecasting processes are explained. The focus is on how to practically achieve this. The training explores important concepts and then presents a baseline exercise to calculate a P&L, cash flow using both the direct and indirect method, and the balance sheet. After the completion of the first exercise, additional complexity is gradually introduced into the exercise, giving the participants food for thought, and stimulating reflection in the group. At the end of the training a forecasting model is also reviewed.

COURSE CONTENT:

Morning - Budgeting concepts: the essentials

• Top down and bottom up methods
• Incremental, zero based, standard costing and capacity based methods
• The importance of phasing, comparison with actual phasing
• Budget interactions : P&L, balance, cash flow
• Budget objectives
  
  

Afternoon - Budgeting case

[partly in group and partly independent]

• Revenue and cost allocation
• P&L in the different views
• Balance sheet for management reporting
• Cash flow and net debt reconciliation

At the end of the training, you will be able to set up your own budgeting and forecasting process in a production company, and be aware of the pitfalls in doing so.

Please note that this training consists of one full day and an additional half‑day session. 

The second part of the programme will take place on 23 June 2026 in the morning, also in Zaventem.

• Lunch will be provided on the first full day.

• The training will be given in English unless you are all Dutch-speaking.
