Beyond the numbers: what’s it really like to work in the Transition & Support team for Financial Institutions

30 June 2025

When people hear “Financial Institutions,” their minds often jump to balance sheets, regulations, and rows of numbers. But at TriFinance, working in this field is about much more than finance alone. It’s about impact, versatility, and being at the heart of transformation within organizations.

We sat down with four of our consultants: Lance Wauters, Evisi Ballabani, Maria Hairapetian, and Assia Kastit, who are part of the Financial Institutions team within our Transition & Support department. Each of them brings a unique perspective to what it means to work in this dynamic environment.

Keeping the engine running and helping it evolve

The Transition & Support (T&S) team provides financial institutions with essential business continuity and business expertise solutions. Whether it’s stepping in when key personnel are absent, or supporting our clients during periods of transformation, our consultants help ensure that the organization continues to run smoothly. But the scope is far broader than it may appear.

From setting up governance structures and implementing new reporting processes, to adapting systems in response to evolving regulatory requirements, our consultants are involved in a wide range of departments. Risk management, in particular, has become a vital area of focus. As regulations tighten, TriFinance supports institutions across both financial and non-financial risk domains: including compliance, model risk, internal control, and enterprise risk management.

Career journeys with purpose and possibility

Take Lance Wauters, for example. With a background in economics and financial markets, he joined TriFinance straight after graduation with a clear ambition: to grow into a managerial role within a leading financial institution. But instead of taking a traditional route, Lance sought breadth over linearity. At TriFinance, he’s been able to build expertise across ESG, risk management, compliance and data analytics, gaining exposure to the full spectrum of challenges the sector is facing.

Evisi, another member of our Financial Institutions team, has spent the past three years working with some of the largest banks in the country. Her journey has taken her through middle and back office operations, areas often overlooked, yet critical to the engine room of financial institutions. Her experience shows that consulting in finance is not confined to the finance department. “There’s a whole world behind the scenes,” she says, “and I’ve had the chance to explore it.”

Assia joined TriFinance in 2022, bringing with her six years of experience in non-life insurance, specifically in underwriting and claims management. What drew her to consultancy? “The opportunity to keep learning,” she explains. “I didn’t want to be stuck in one role. Consulting lets me dive into new environments and contribute to making the insurance sector more agile and efficient.”

Maria’s story echoes a similar desire for growth. Before joining TriFinance just over a year ago, she spent nearly five years in a claims operations department. While she valued the experience, the scope of her responsibilities had become too narrow. “I realized I needed more freedom to shape my career,” she says. “That’s what brought me here. I wanted variety, ownership, and the ability to choose my direction.”

More than a job: a platform for growth

What unites these consultants is their appetite for challenge, their openness to change, and their desire to make a difference across industries. Whether it’s banking, insurance, or risk management, they’re proof that working in financial institutions at TriFinance means engaging with much more than numbers.

It's about stepping into different environments, gaining diverse perspectives, and playing an active role in shaping the future of the sector.
