7 reasons to trade your job at an accounting firm for a position as finance consultant at TriFinance
12 May 2025After working for 2 years in a certified accountancy firm, 5 years ago I decided to switch to financial consulting at TriFinance. A decision that radically transformed my vision of the profession, my professional development, and my long-term career prospects.
These are the seven main reasons that led me to take the leap.
1. Work within an in-house bookkeeping department while still discovering several companies
2. Delve into the accounts of large companies
3. Say goodbye to the bookkeeping routine
4. Work with a wide range of accounting software and ERP systems
5. Expand your skills beyond traditional bookkeeping
6. Personal growth through mentoring and support from the internal BaseCamp team
7. Projects that align with your ambitions in a Best Place to Work
1. Work within an in-house bookkeeping department while still discovering several companies
One of the most limiting aspects of working in a fiduciary firm is the feeling of remaining on the sidelines of your clients' teams. As a consultant at TriFinance, I’ve had the opportunity to truly integrate into internal bookkeeping departments. This allows me to contribute more directly to day-to-day operations, while still enjoying the diversity that comes with discovering new organizational structures with every project. Each assignment is a full immersion into a different corporate culture.
2. Delve into the accounts of large companies
At TriFinance, I am fortunate to work with large companies in a variety of sectors: industrial, retail, service, engineering... These are much more complex environments than I was used to. Working on the accounts of these companies means understanding their organization from the inside out, processing large amounts of data and contributing to larger closures and audits. It's an experience that clearly accelerates the development of your knowledge and skills.
I discovered environments that were much more complex than those I encountered in an accountancy firm.
3. Say goodbye to the bookkeeping routine
In an accounting firm, the cycles are repetitive: VAT returns, closings, annual accounts… Every year feels like a copy of the last. In consultancy, every assignment is different. You take on a new role, join a different team, and adapt to a new context each time. This has allowed me to grow from pure bookkeeping into financial analysis and controlling. The variety keeps me motivated, wards off monotony, and continuously fuels my curiosity.

4. Work with a wide range of accounting software and ERP systems
Over the past five years, I’ve gained hands-on experience with tools such as SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle, Odoo, and Adfinity. Each new system presents a challenge, but also an opportunity to expand your toolkit in a very concrete way. The more systems you get to know, the quicker and more flexible you become. This adaptability is undoubtedly a valuable asset in a finance career that evolves constantly.
5. Expand your skills beyond traditional bookkeeping
The biggest change? Stepping out of my strictly accounting-focused role.
As a finance consultant, I’ve worked on projects involving risk management, cash management, pricing, and controlling: roles I didn’t even know existed at the start of my career, but which I’ve found incredibly engaging. These experiences have given me a broader understanding of corporate finance and how each function contributes to overall business strategy.

6. Personal growth through mentoring and support from the internal BaseCamp team
At TriFinance, you’re never on your own. The internal BaseCamp team is our home base. They guide you in your project choices, support your training needs, and are there for you in times of doubt.
Thanks to mentoring, regular feedback, and a comprehensive training offer, I’ve been able to shape a coherent and future-oriented career path that is fully aligned with my ambitions. You truly become the director of your own career.
7. Projects that align with your ambitions in a Best Place to Work
What do I value most? Nothing is imposed on you. You openly discuss the types of projects you want to take on, what you'd rather avoid, and the career steps you aim to achieve. TriFinance supports you in this and helps you make it happen, together.
The result: I feel heard, appreciated, and continuously challenged. The atmosphere is warm and personal, and every colleague—consultants and the internal BaseCamp team alike—shares the same ambition: to grow together. It’s no coincidence that TriFinance has been recognised as a Best Workplace: an award that perfectly reflects my everyday reality.
Changing direction is never easy. But for me, becoming a finance consultant at TriFinance has been one of the best decisions of my career. If you have a background in accounting and want to change direction in your career, want to discover new companies and ways of working and in general want to learn in a people-centric organization, a job as a consultant at TriFinance could be your next step.
